What it is

Microsoft Bot Framework remains a mature SDK and bot service for enterprise conversational AI on Azure. The Direct Line Speech channel exposes a voice surface, and integration with Azure AI Speech provides ASR and TTS. Microsoft is steering new builds toward Copilot Studio (Power Virtual Agents) but Bot Framework is still widely deployed.

Best for: Azure-native teams building bots that span Teams, web, and voice.
Watch out for: LLM-native experiences typically use newer Copilot/Power Virtual Agents stack instead.
